Me Made May 2018

What in the world is Me Made May? Well it’s just a month to celebrate all that we have made for ourselves and integrate handmade items into our everyday wardrobe!  Zoey from So, Zoe Blog created this challenge and you can find more out about it here on her blog.

About 5 ish years ago (maybe less), I came across a Me Made May post on Instagram. At this time, I was making clothes and costumes but not really much everyday clothing. I was so inspired by everyone making everyday clothing that I immediately started to come up with Me Made May posts.

I have always been obsessed with clothing. Always wanting the next new trend and hating to wear the same thing in a certain amount of time and if I was photographed wearing it, I would either not wear it again for a year or find a new way to wear the garment so it looked new and fresh. I have waaaaaay too many clothes because I feel like I need options.

When I started working as a teenager, all my money went straight to my wardrobe and that continued on into my 20s. I would spend every last penny of my extra money on clothes and my closet was always busting at the seams (no pun intended, hehe).

Focusing on handmade garments has really helped to curb my shopping habits and buy more focused garments that are wearable more than once and hold up to quality. Fast fashion has ruined us all and brainwashed us to think we need more than we actually do. Now don’t get me wrong, I still buy fast fashion, but only when I have to or when I am supporting local businesses.  Or when I see something I am absolutely in love with.

I still have a long way to go in my obsession with clothes but at least now I have lots of me-made items that are taking over my wardrobe. I also go shopping and examine the garments and go home and recreate them!  When this whole journey started I had maybe 5 me-made garments consisting of my wedding dress, some pj pants, and maybe a skirt.  Now I have a ton of dresses, overalls, pants, tank tops, and even my own panties (I have a free pattern here if you want to make those panties).

So, this May, I pledge to wear at least 3 me-made garments per week, and will post my outfits on Instagram! I also would like to make a couple other garments for summer!  I am also offering a 30% discount on my other patterns by using the coupon code memademay18!

I can’t wait to see everyone’s creations (and get a little FOMO from not making enough handmade garments)!
